Power ON: Raise your Voice Today! Spaces that are bridging the gap for WOMEN!

Join us in celebrating #IWM 2023 with all things #SheOwned!

Women’s History Month encourages us to remember and celebrate women, organizations and communities from all walks of life who shape our great nation. This year, we wanted to integrate our roots, and merge with wonderful spaces and platforms that have provided resources, tools and valuable information for us to feel equipped enough to show up, raise our voices and claim that seat at the table.

Our competent and confident women of the Women’s Chamber of Commerce and beyond are a force to be reckoned- we keep repeating it, it’s our Jordan Year, 2023 here we come.
Important STATS to keep in mind:

Although the gender gap is slowly closing, women still only make 84 cents for every dollar their male counterparts make.

“Employees themselves are similarly anxious about the widening skills gap, with 46 percent of those surveyed believing their current skill set will become irrelevant by 2024.”
Despite attempts to narrow the gap, women in 2022 still earned 17% less than men on average, particularly for women as they age.

Women of color are among the lowest-paid workers in rural areas, with rural Black and Hispanic women making just 56 cents for every dollar that rural white, non-Hispanic men make.
Latinas were compensated just 54% of what non-Hispanic white men were paid in 2021.
Black women were paid 58% of what non-Hispanic white men were paid in 2020.

The gender pay gap is a complex issue influenced by various factors including, discrimination, age, working hours, parenthood, and more. More importantly, it’s what we choose to do with this information that can take a turn, break a cycle, surpass that glass ceiling, and allow us to break through to reach equality within our community so we can best live the life we deserve.

Below are a few organizations, communities, individuals, and resources that are advocating for women’s rights and bridging the gap:

Virtual Mom Collective: VMC’s mission is to empower and uplift the working and stay at home moms during #thisnewnormal. One of their core principles is to advocate gender equality in the workplace and highlight minority, female, and marginalized voices across the US and the world.
UN Women: The global champion for gender equality, working to develop and uphold standards and create an environment in which every woman and girl can exercise her human rights and live up to her full potential.

Woman Bridging the Gap – Podcast Led by Alexandra D’Itali & Lenya Wilson: A podcast that believes in honesty, openness, and that love can bridge the gap between people of color and white people.

One of our own, Taj McGill sits on the Advisory Board, Founder + CEO of South Florida Fashion Academy – You can catch Taj bridging the gap between our younger generation and the access to a creative and entrepreneurial journey throughout middle and high school students via a dual enrollment program.

We want to celebrate the resiliency and courage it takes to show up in your wholeness with full conviction for yourself and those in the community. Representation is a big part of possibility, and that’s one thing we never want to lose, faith in possibility and opportunity.
Your destination is YOUR choice- Make it count, for you and the generations that follow. Today and over the years ahead, our collective dedication and shared desire to give voice to the voiceless is critical to keeping us informed, entertained and aware.

Cheers to us!
